23.12.11 MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR !

"Lang ersehnt von jedermann, stehen nun die Feiertage an.
Mögen sie die Ruhe bringen, sich zu widmen auch mal Dingen,
die man lang sich vorgenommen, doch die stets zu kurz gekommen."

30.11.11 Christmas present

Every year, it's the same problem. How can I find a suitable present for somebody who already seems to have everything? Well, perhaps the Swissalpine can help here...

Follow the link to get more details...

17.11.11 NEW office hours

The Swissalpine office hours are from now on: tuesday 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.

10.11.11 Sertig, we are coming back!

On 28 July 2012 the route will run over the Sertigpass as in 1986-1997 and in 2011. The organisation committee opted for this decision because the feedback was positive throughout. What is more, the organisation can be better implemented as regards safety and logistics. The top priority is the runners' safety. They spend less time at 2,500 metres above sea level on the Sertig variant, and it is possible to fly longer in the event of difficult weather conditions.

Pfüdis / up to 4 years / 0.5 km / start 4.00 pm
MINI / 5 - 6 years / 0.5 km / start 4.20 pm
MIDI / 7 - 8 years / 0.9 km / start 4.40 pm
MAXI / 9 - 10 years / 1.4 km / start 5.00 pm

30.11.10 Race fees 2011

Various transport operators (including SBB and the Rhaetian Railway) will generally increase prices when changing their timetables in December 2010, which means that Swiss and Regio tickets will also be affected. For this reason, we unfortunately have had no choice but to adjust prices slightly compared with last year.

But we are glad to inform you, that the Rhaetian Railway will utilize an additional train starting from Samedan and Landquart just for the start in Davos at 7.00 a.m. So we can ensure that everybody will be on time. The detailed timetable will be published on our website at a later date.

Race fees 2011

30.11.10 One-off revival of former route

Holding the K78 on the Panorama Trail requires good weather conditions. If the weather fails us, however, we do have an alternative route via the Sertig pass/valley. In order to review and optimise our organisation, on 29 November 2010, the Organising Committee decided that in the year 2011 it is going to use the Sertig route - as a one-off and irrespective of the weather.

The course for the K78 and K42 runs from Keschhütte to Davos via Lai da Ravais-ch - Sur (2,580 m a.s.l.), Sertig Pass (at 2,739 m a.s.l., the highest point), Sertig Dörfli and Clavadel (following the hiking trail). At 42.2 km, the K42 is marathon-length and the K78 stays approximately the same length. Maps and profiles will appear on our website by mid-January.

This means that in the first year since our big anniversary, after 13 years we will experience a one-off revival of the former route. Without any doubt, the highlights include the Ravais-ch lakes, the Sertig Pass, Sertig Dörfli with its famous little church and the fantastic woodland up to Clavadel.

We are convinced the Sertig route will offer you a one-of-a-kind experience. This will also confirm that the Swissalpine – depending on weather conditions – has two fully-fledged courses to offer and therefore is both more reliable and more exclusive.

30.11.10 Improved website

There is now a heading called "Info A-Z". This is where you will find all you need to know about the Swissalpine. Give it a try and explore our new, improved website.

There is also a great new feature for French-speaking runners and fans. With immediate effect, our website is now available in French, as well as German and English.

We intend continuing to add new information over the coming weeks. So make sure you visit our website on a regular basis and keep up-to-date.

New heading "Info A-Z"

30.11.10 Good-bye and Welcome

Conny_Britta.JPG

Conny Greiner, the heart and soul of the Swissalpine office in Davos, will unfortunately be leaving us of her own volition at the end of the year to seek new challenges. On behalf of the entire Organising Committee, we would like to thank her for her extraordinary commitment to the Swissalpine.

At the same time, we would like to introduce you to a new member of our team. From January 2011, Britta Schnewlin will be responsible for the Swissalpine office and therefore will deal with all queries relating to this unique running event. We would like to give her a warm welcome and wish her all the best in her new job.

26.10.10 Looking forward to the Swissalpine 2011

Start of the K78, C42 and K31
The start of these three disciplines is being brought forward by an hour to 7.00 a.m. The reason for this is the 14-hour time slot for the K78. This proved worthwhile when it was run this year, but the double start did lead to jams in a few narrow sections, much to the displeasure of the runners. Having everyone starting together therefore offers an opportunity for the runners to group together in the wider sections. The target finish time in Davos will accordingly be shifted to 9.00 p.m.

Course rerouting
Given the bottlenecks and repeated jams on the previous section over the Junkerboden, next year this part of the course will again go over the Lengmatte like it used to. We will release precise details of the new routes in good time on our website.

Start of the K42
The steady growth of the K42 means we will have to split the field into two starts. Runners with a finishing time of up to five hours will set off at 10.30 a.m., then the second start will be at 11.30 a.m. as previously.

Bernina_Express.jpg

22.04.10 Corvatsch Trophy ideal training for the big event

corvatsch-trophy.jpg

On 24 July 2010, exactly one week before the Swissalpine, the Alpinathlon Engadin St. Moritz takes place. The last
part of the course through the mountains runs from St. Moritz Bad to the Corvatsch mountain station at 3,303 metres above sea-level, making it the highest altitude finish for any sporting event in Europe. This mountain run is 10.8 km long, ascending 1,626 metres and descending 105 metres. It represents the perfect way of training for both ambitious and
hobby runners, because the time frame is generously calculated.

19.02.10 Early start for the K78 at 06.00 hours

Bild_591.jpg

This start is intended for runners who can complete the K78 in 11 to 14 hours. This rule, which has been introduced for the first time, is going down well. Current applications for the K78 indicate that 20% of the runners will be at the start at 06.00 a.m., which will eventually result in a field of about 200 to 300 entrants. The front runners of the 08.00 a.m. start will overtake the field of early starters after Filisur.

The Keschhütte passage is planned as follows:

Start at 06.00 a.m.: 00.45 p.m. – approx. 03.00 p.m.
(Keschhütte may be passed at 00.45 p.m. at the earliest.)
Start at 08.00 a.m.: 00.00 p.m. – 03.40 p.m.

The field of early starters will be so well split up by the Keschhütte that it will easily be possible to overtake on the Panorama Trail. The rule of fair play is especially important here: slower runners must allow faster runners to pass them.

30.11.09 Time slot for K78 increased

Bild_526.jpg

By way of a special new feature to mark our anniversary, entrants in the K78 will now have 14 hours to complete the course, instead of the previous 12. This will mean that more runners will now be able to enter this race which they could not complete in the previously allotted time.

As a result, there will now be two starts. Runners who are expected to take longer than 11 hours to finish will go off at 06.00 hours. The main start for runners expected to finish in less than 11 hours will be at 08.00 hours, as before.

Due to various adjustments and rising costs relating to organisational matters, it has unfortunately been necessary to increase the cost of entry into the Swissalpine. The entry fee will now depend in which of the three following phases you register:

1st phase: 30 November 2009 – 31 March 2010
2nd phase: 1 April 2010 – 31 May 2010
3rd phase: 1 June 2020 – 28 July 2010

All online entrants who apply during the first registration phase will benefit from a discount for early application. These prices are actually lower than those of last year.
