Dear SAD 2009 Entrants and Volunteers,

It is with great happiness and thanks that we can tell you that this year's SAD took place without any accidents worthy of mention.
Everyone returned home in good health and enriched by the experience. These things do not happen by accident. We would like to thank all entrants for following our recommendations with regard to equipment. Many thanks are due to our first aid/rescue/heli-team, which yet again provided an exceptional service. Credit also to all the volunteers who distributed and handed out the catering (around 200,000 portions). Extra special thanks are due to the team on the ScalettaPass: braving storms, snow and temperatures around zero, they spent the night before the Saturday on the ScalettaPass, so they could be up bright and early, ready for the race. Just as touching was the commitment of our little helpers, in Bergün for instance, where they retrieved the luggage for the K78 runners from the hall, therefore also completing a marathon themselves.

The Rhaetian Railway and other transport companies did a super job by transporting runners, support teams and spectators safely and on time and, please note, on one of the most beautiful routes in the world. Only in this way is it possible to cover practically 100% of all transportation needs on public transport, by bike or on foot. The SAD transport system is both one-of-a-kind and exemplary.

The route changes at Monstein and on the way to Bellaluna were also positively received. Viewed overall, a noticeable time reserve arose, so that if it proved necessary to close the route on the way, only a few runners had to be taken out of the race.

We are delighted to report that it was possible to eliminate the "traffic jams" experienced last year thanks to the measures we took.

The Panorama Trail would have been impassable without the great commitment of volunteers and the civil defence personnel. Yet again, the mood during the race and at the finish was awesome. Many thanks to the thousands of spectators: you dotted the Is and crossed the Ts.

Improvements
As is always the case, there were points where the SAD is concerned that still leave room for improvement. We were particularly annoyed that the showers in Davos broke down at around 17.00 hours because of a technical fault in spite of installations featuring instantaneous water heaters. We have made it quite clear how we feel about this to those responsible.

Time measurement - C42
For reasons of cost, this year we had to abandon time measurement on the C42 with the Champion Chip and use a barcode system.
This allows us to measure the time from the starting gun to the finishing line. However, next year we will also be giving out chips for this race.

Finisher shirts
Given the uncertain economic climate and number of entrants, we had to dispense with handing out free SAD shirts to participants in the shorter races. We made it clear at an early stage that this would be the case.
In 2010, our anniversary year, there will again be shirts for everyone!

This year we had substantially more entrants in the K78, K42 and C42 than last year. Unfortunately we ran out of Finisher shirts. The runners involved have been notified and will receive their shirts in the post by the end of October at the latest.

Our sincere thanks to all those who took the trouble to give us feedback, either by e-mail or with an entry in the guest book. We assure you that all your suggestions will be carefully considered.

We would again like to remind you that the finisher video clip has been online since 28.7.2009: www.migros-finisherclip.ch. Information about SAD 2010 will be on our website from the end of February 2010: www.swissalpine.ch.

We wish you all the best and are already looking forward to our anniversary event on 31 July 2010.

Best regards,
For the Organising Committee: Andrea Tuffli
